Once upon a time, the Islamic civilization was the most open, dynamic, creative, and tolerant part of the world. Muslim minds led science and philosophy, while minorities which seek religious freedom, such as Jews, escaped from Christian lands to Islamic ones.
This western secular prevailing civilisation is not really liberal, or democratic, or beneficial and definately not equally to all and I won't go into how it all came about and what is propping it up so it appears as if it is a civilisation worth admiring. Reality of a beneficial life is not in some absolutes but rather in the careful balancing of many dimensions in an attempt to cultivate the humanities natural inclination to good and beneficial civilisation. I am just trying to observe reality as critically as I can seeking to uncover the truth for myself in order to have a real healthy mentality while considering my own bias.
What Muslims need to do is revive the true tradition of Islam and the biggest burden is on us to seek it and then implement it. I don't see what benefit Islam stands to gain from the current civilisation except to utilise the technological instruments that it has developed but from humanities perspective this civilisation is failing.
